ANTI-RACISM DISCUSSION GROUP IS STARTING UP!

When?  This coming Tuesday, September 16, 7:00pm – on Zoom

The Anti-Racism Discussion Group is having its next meeting on Tuesday, September 16 at 7PM via Zoom. We will discuss people's involvement in local and national political and social justice issues over the summer and what we as a group should  do next.

QVS FELLOWS COMING TO GMM – NEXT SUNDAY, 9/21

Come to worship on Sunday, September 21, to welcome the new group of Philadelphia QVS Fellows!

As you may know, they live together in a house, and each Fellow spends their year engaged in meaningful work throughout the Philadelphia community.

The Philadelphia QVS house is under the spiritual care of Germantown Monthly Meeting, as well as Green Street Monthly Meeting, Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, and Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia (Arch St. Quakers), as well as being supported by the larger Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting.

GMM IS INVITED TO READ TO GFS LOWER SCHOOL CLASSES!

Once again, GMM has the opportunity to read to Lower School students on the Thursdays when they have "informal meeting for worship" when teachers have flexibility in how/where the students worship. Meeting members are invited to join by reading books that illustrate any of the Friends’ testimonies, and then staying with the class for the worship period.

Where? LOVE Park (15th Street & JFK Blvd - at the end of Ben Franklin Parkway) 

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting’s EcoJustice Collaborative (EJC) and Quaker Action MidAtlantic Region (QAMAR) will have an information table at this event – to celebrate the remarkable success of solar energy and to push for even greater progress. GMM member, and Environmental Concerns Committee clerk, Bill Cozzens will be there too!

 🌳🌿LEARNING AND ACTION IN FIVE AREAS OF CLIMATE CARE 🌳🌿

Creating a Playbook for Climate Action has guided Friends and meetings in five areas: activism, education, reducing carbon footprints, finances, and mourning loss & instilling hope. It encourages Friends to set goals, share ideas, and track progress and connect directly with the themes shaping upcoming workshops.

The playbook connects with Climate Witness: Let Our Actions Speak! Thread Gathering on Saturday, October 25, at Arch Street Meeting House with participation also available online.

TRAININGS ON NON-VIOLENT DIRECT ACTION

This year Friends Center is celebrating fifty years as the Quaker hub for peace and justice in Philadelphia by hosting a series of trainings on nonviolent direct action.

When?   On a series of Sundays (2:00 - 5:00pm) between now and January 2026 

Where?  Friends Center (1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia)

  • All workshops are free to attend.
  • Refreshments will be provided
  • They are confirming whether they can provide Child Care (that’s the goal)
  • Register for each workshop, so they can anticipate numbers.

Building upon an abolitionist vision of the future, this training will teach skills and competencies for staying safe while engaging with police or immigration enforcement as well as strategies for strengthening the resilience and wellbeing of communities from the grassroots.

These rides are in support of events leading up to “Sun Day”, with an optional discussion of Solar Energy at a local pub following the ride. “Sun Day” is a day of action on September 21, 2025, celebrating the power of clean energy, sponsored by a coalition of grassroots organizations.

This national event is designed to accelerate the growth of solar energy despite recent headwinds. Hundreds of “Sun Day” events are being held across the country to celebrate the remarkable success of solar energy and to push for even greater progress.

Come to LOVE Park, which will be packed with solar-powered and sun-inspired activities for all ages: live music, arts, solar kits for teachers, model solar car races, EV display, solar s'mores, educational booths and actions we can all take to let our public officials know we need more solar NOW.
