We will discuss people's involvement in local and national political and social justice issues over the summer and what we as a group should do next. Come to worship on Sunday, September 21, to welcome the new group of Philadelphia QVS Fellows! As you may know, they live together in a house, and each Fellow spends their year engaged in meaningful work throughout the Philadelphia community. The Philadelphia QVS house is under the spiritual care of Germantown Monthly Meeting, as well as Green Street Monthly Meeting, Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, and Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia (Arch St. Quakers), as well as being supported by the larger Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting. GMM IS INVITED TO READ TO GFS LOWER SCHOOL CLASSES! Once again, GMM has the opportunity to read to Lower School students on the Thursdays when they have "informal meeting for worship" when teachers have flexibility in how/where the students worship. Meeting members are invited to join by reading books that illustrate any of the Friends’ testimonies, and then staying with the class for the worship period. Interested? Questions? Creating a Playbook for Climate Action has guided Friends and meetings in five areas: activism, education, reducing carbon footprints, finances, and mourning loss & instilling hope. It encourages Friends to set goals, share ideas, and track progress and connect directly with the themes shaping upcoming workshops. The playbook connects with Climate Witness: Let Our Actions Speak! Thread Gathering on Saturday, October 25, at Arch Street Meeting House with participation also available online. This year Friends Center is celebrating fifty years as the Quaker hub for peace and justice in Philadelphia by hosting a series of trainings on nonviolent direct action. When? Following the effort of Friends General Conference (FGC), supporting newcomers as well as offering a refresher for oldtimers, each week there will be a tip from FGC’s New Quaker Checklist – “steps to take to deepen your faith and connect to other Friends in North America.” Try one, or try them all! As students settle back in for another year of exploration and growth, GFS welcomes their newest group of faculty and staff!
