WELCOME TO QUAKERISM SERIESCo-sponsored by Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting (PQM) When? This Thursday, June 19, 7:30pm
What? June’s Topic: Meeting for Worship In a quandary about queries? Whether you are brand new, or have been attending meeting for a little while – this fresh and engaging 4-part series invites you to explore the spiritual grounding, communal practices, and rich traditions at the heart of Quaker life. You can come in any order, there's no advance reading, and no homework. This is not a history class. The plan is to have this program continue in rotation throughout the year. If you miss one time, you can always catch it the next time around, probably with a different presenter, but with the same spirit of welcome, joy and sharing. There will be time for questions, discussion, and getting to know other people, some from your own Monthly Meeting, some from other Meetings, some from no Meeting at all, just seekers. All are warmly welcome!

PRE-VIGIL FOR NO KINGS DAY … IN GERMANTOWN~ sponsored by the Brandywine Peace Community When? Friday, June 13, 5:00-6:00pm Where? Germantown Avenue at Market Square, which is between School House Lane and Coulter Street Posters and large banners will be provided. Bell-tolling. The vigil will end across the street at the Germantown White House with a brief collection in silence. Why this location? In these difficult times, it bears remembering that George Washington refused pressure to become king of the newly formed country. He reminded his adoring supporters that they fought the Revolutionary War to end living under a king. It was time for a new form of government, “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” as prescribed in the Declaration of Independence. The Germantown White House is where President George Washington met with his cabinet in 1793 to resolve domestic and foreign crises that threatened the new nation. This is also where he brought his troops in the summer to get away from the yellow fever epidemic that was ravaging low-lying Philadelphia. Please join us in this special event to link our present-day crisis of government to the inspiring vision our forefathers’ put in place 249 years ago. | ||
